My Experience at DeskNet and FLUKE

I was the primary developer of the “ATM Wizard” Windows
95 software product that provides easy remote control and
ATM network monitoring statistics when used with the
FLUKE DS3portŪPlus handheld T3/ATM network analyzer
instrument. I Created the graphical user interface of  “ATM
Wizard” using Visual Basic 4.0, and I produced the analysis
module of  “ATM Wizard” using C++ and Phar Lap’s DOS
Extender “TNT” with “WinPipe”.

The "ATM Wizard" was originally developed at DeskNet in
Armonk. When the Fluke Corporation in Everett,
Washington, decided to add it to their similar products, the
two companies merged and the DeskNet employees were
asked to move to Everett. FLUKE offered to give us all an
introductory trip to their Everett headquarters to help
convince us to move. I was especially impressed by the
spectacular sight of the Olympic Mountain peaks I saw as I
was arriving at FLUKE. I was also fascinated to see the
ferries sailing to Whidbey Island and back to the dock in
Mukilteo, which neighbors the FLUKE property. I decided
to move to a home on the western coast of Whidbey Island
that was situated on a high bluff with perfect views of those
Olympic peaks, the shipping lanes to Seattle, and gorgeous
sunsets over the mountain peaks and Puget Sound, as these
photos show:

Unfortunately, just as the programming of "ATM Wizard"
was nearing completion, a new market research study
determined that the market for the product was too small,
the project was terminated, and I was laid off.

I also proposed and programmed the GUI of “ATM Demo”
software to demonstrate the Fluke DS3portŪPlus handheld
meter using Visual Basic 4.0.
